Chapter Two;

It all began when I was just fourteen years old. It was the summer holidays where I had six weeks off in between the transition of school years. A close friend had just been on holiday and wanted to give me a little gift she had picked up for me. I invited her over to my house, and we spent the entire time messing around on a computer, talking to people on an instant messenger, MSN.
A boy I used to talk to started talking to us. At first it was just the usual chatter, e.g. 'hi how are you?' But it progressed into flirting. He eventually asked me if I would be willing to meet up with him and see how we got along because he really liked me. I decided I really liked him too, and after much debate with Anne - the friend I had over - I decided that I would meet up with him. The conditions were that Anne was to come, and I was to decide where we would meet.
Now I know how foolish this was, meeting up with someone I had met once before - if that - but aged fourteen with raging hormones and feeling flattered by any guy that would take interest in me, I didn't care. I thought I was being sensible by taking the precautions of having a friend with me and meeting in a public place. Looking back now, I realise how stupid this was. I wouldn't change it now, but I do sometimes think that I should have had more sense.
When the day to meet Matthew finally arrived, Anne and I chatted excitedly about what it was going to be like, and what kind of friend he was going to bring for Anne to talk to. We were meeting them at our local recreational centre, and since it was a hot and sunny day we decided to take the ten minute walk down there.
We got there an hour before we heard anything from Matthew. We waited around anxiously, before deciding to phone him and see where he was and how long he'd be. I was too shy to even speak on the phone, so I handed it to Anne and got her to phone Matt. As soon as he answered she hung up, realising that he was standing almost directly opposite us. We ran away and giggled like a pair of ten year olds. They noticed us straight away, and walked up to us. We spent the entire day making awkward conversation either with each other or with our own friends. We basically ignored each other and spoke to our friends more than we spoke to each other. Despite this, I wanted to see him again. I didn't know why, but there was something about Matthew that drew me to him.
A few days later, we had agreed to meet up again. Matthew was going to bring a different friend however, because the one he had already brought had tried to ask me out behind his back. I didn't tell Matthew, but it must have been obvious that he liked me because Matthew was cautious about him coming near me the whole time we were together. Not that it mattered, Matthew didn't come near me himself. We were both shy and childish.
